Unable to "Save As" a restored Photo *closed*
« on: Monday 30 April 07 15:13 BST (UK) »
I followed the instructions to Right click on a restored Photo. and on going to My Pictures, noticed that the File name was "Index" and the File Type as ART(*art) and drop down menu Bitmap(*bmp)

After Saving. this appeared as File Index.php  in My pictures. .and then the "Windows unable to open this "etc.

What am I doing wrong please

I am sorry Springy but I can't help you with the method you are
using because it's not something that I ever do. I can reason
out what you are doing but I don't want to confuse you any further.

Lets step back. (If any of my assumptions are wrong ,please tell me.)

You say that you have a restored photo. Therefore I assume that you
are using some sort of software.?

With the photo' opened in that software, Left click on File on the top
         toolbar.
A drop down menu will appear.  Go down to Save As... and left click.

A box will appear with Save Options as its title. This gives you 3 options.
You can select where you want the file to be stored ( i.e the photo')
You can select what File name you want it to have.
You can select what Format to save the photo' in. (i.e jpeg, tif, bmp etc)

I'll pause here and let you tell me if it makes sense.

                      Tomkin. ;D ;D

Spring

Are you trying to download a pic that you've had restored on the board?  If so, there is an alternative method to right clicking.  At the bottom of the pic is a "paper clip" icon,  click on that and you can download your pic where you specify and it downloads it with the name of the file as posted and in the format that the pic is posted in ie .jpg.

Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Hi Tomkin,

Still got probs. with the photo as when I clicked on the Paper clip  I got the jpg. title OK but no Photo, so guess I shall have to post a query on the Techy Board. Very odd but then my computer needs an MOT.so wouldn'tbe surprised if the cause is my end.

Guess I won't be doing any restoring myself, a few years ago maybe .

Off now ,got some jobs to do !!!

Hi Spring,

Right click on the photo itself not on the clip.
then on the menu Left Click Save As...

A box will appear probably " My Pictures."

At this point you can select a different folder to save to if you want.

You will see a file name box. You can give the picture (file) a different
name to the one shown which is usually a jumble of letters & numbers. *
Under this you can alter the file Format but it is usually set to jpeg so leave
                it at that.

      * As long as you know what the file refers to it doesn't matter. I usually link
the poster & the topic. Then when I post a restored photo I know which
            Topic it belongs to.

Tomkin.     Keep plugging Gel. With practise it gets easier. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi Spring

I don't know if your computer is the same as mine, but when I download a pic from Roots, I cannot rename it straight away as it becomes unopenable (is that a word?).  So I have to do the following

Right click on picture, save as Index in My Pictures, close My Pictures.  Then I have to go into My picutres again and right click on the picture called Index, click on the rename option  and then rename it.  If I try to rename it when I am saving it always goes pear shaped and I cannot open the pic.

Try this, I hope it works for you.
