Samuel HURREN of Worlingworth
« on: Monday 30 April 07 21:45 BST (UK) »
Samuel Hurren – Worlingworth, Suffolk (later of London)

I am trying to piece together some of my family history, the details below are what I know about the family.

Samuel Hurren was born in 1865, he either lived or worked in the Worlingworth area and I understand worked with horses as a saddler or harness maker he later went to London and worked as a groom (there is story of him in London taking a whip to the coalman for mistreating a horse!)

He married Edith? Form Godstone in Surrey.

Samuel died on 9th May 1941; Edith died 12 February 1940 aged 69.

They had the following Children in London:

Jessie Dora – died 22nd February 1940 aged 27

Violet

Grace

Alice

Alfred

Albert Samuel – married Nancy Hall on 2nd June 1941 (these are my grandparents).

There was also another brother.

Hello Gringomark,
Welcome to RootsChat

Looks like Samuel Hurren married Edith Mills

FreeBMD
marriage
Mar qtr 1893
Samuel Hurren
Godstone
2a 256
(there are 2 males 1 female on page-no Edith)
but the only Edith married Mar qtr 1893 Godstone is Edith Mills -ref 2a 266 (could be mistranscribed)

On 1901 census Edith Hurren is age 30 b Godstone

There is birth ref FreeBMD
Sept qtr 1870
Godstone
Edith Mills
2a 179
and on 1881census
Edith Mills b. Godstone is with her parents John / Grace

so it pretty much looks like Edith Mills married Samuel Hurren????

on 1901 (as posted previously) they have 3 children :
Alice E
Alfred J
May F

These  look like Birth reg of children
FreeBMD

Dec qtr 1895

Samuel is eluding me in 1851  but I find this entry coincidental

1851 Tannington, Suffolk
Samuel Hurren Head M 45 Ag Lab Tannington Suffolk
Pheaby Wife M 52    Worlingworth "
David Son U 16 Ag Lab Tannington "
John Son U 12 Tannington "
HO107; Piece: 1796; Folio: 491; Page: 7

and 1841 Village, Tannington, Suffolk
All born in County
Saml Hurren 35 Ag Lab
Pheoby 40
Mary Ann 14
Saml 11
Martha 9
David 5
John 2
HO107; Piece 1026; Book: 8;  Folio: 7; Page: 8

This family in 1841 has been transcribed as Hunen but somebody has posted an amendment for the name to be changed to Hurren, so it would seem that somebody else has been researching this family at sometime, unfortunately no details of that person have been left.

Many thanks to you all.  This has filled in a few gaps, I am going to draw the family tree to make more sense of all the lines.  I think I will be taking a trip to Suffolk to check the church records.

I am trying to establish a link if a Jabez Hurren (b 1809)  from the area is a relative, I will let you know if this is the case! :)

Also the name Hurren seems to be Irish, though I cannot be certain of this.  It appears that to meet an Irish Hurren you have to travel to Boston, USA!!!  ;)
