MMM Now an Emily MAY did arrive in Sydney 24 Mar 1880 as an unassisted immigrant aboard the DURHAM. which had left from London She was aged 17. She appears to be with her family Samuel 40, Jemima 40, Henry 11. Louisa 10 and Fanny 5 though no further information from the passenger list.  :-\

Not spotting them in the census either.

Hi Janet,

I think one or both of those marriage certificates is the way to go. They list a lot more information than UK ones including both parents names and place of birth  ;)

Details on Australian Certificates
http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

NSW BMD
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/familyHistoryCertificates.htm
Transcription agents. Same information as is on a certificate (a cheaper and faster alternative - results are emailed to you)
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/howToTraceYouFamTree.htm#TranscriptionAgent

Queensland - no transcriptions available (quite pricey)

Hello Janet,

Emily and Clara were the sisters of my GGrandather William Henry May, born 1862 Churchtown, Newlyn East.
In 1884 he married Mary Ann Waite in Cardiff. She was the daughter of Grace Sophia May who I believe is the same Sophia May you mention.
I'd be delighted to swap info with you.

Hi all

Just a line to say I have proved it and what a family link it has proven to be.

Emily May went to Australia in 1877 and married twice.

She had a daughter Jane DIXON from her marriage with William DIXON.

Her Sister Clara married James ARTHUR ( my Great Grandparents)

They had a son James Reginald ARTHUR who went to Queensland in 1914 and married a girl called JANE DIXON - yep his cousin.

The had serveral children - who they named after UK family members.

So not only did I breakdown the brickwall for Emily May ( all proven with certificates etc) I also managed to solve my longest brickwall of what happened to my Great Uncle James - Yipee!

Happy hunting and never give up.
