Information on death certificates can be rather unreliable, ages and places of birth are often wrong.

If you are not certain of her birth place being Tewksbury, there is a Caroline SHEPHERD with father William in Warwick, the father is enumerated as groom on farm  and farm labourer.

Thanks for that jebber, I'll check it out.

I'm not 100% sure of the birth Place only what I discovered on the death cert.
She still has two living daughters, who know nothing. They have mentioned Tewkesbury as the birth place.

Sorry, I gave an incorrect reference for 1901, see my previous post has been amended.

If you want to go the 'grandparent' route, check out an 1838 born William Sheph* in 1891, he is a Farmer in Glos - cant remember where i saw him now, will go and find him again later. Has a son Harry 18, so may well have an older daughter back in 1881/71 - might be worth following the family ...

I also looked for a Louise / Louisa in 1901 in any family that might be linked ....

Nope - that approach dead-ended quite quickly - no daughters and in 1871 he's a single man with parents ...

I've gone round in circles on this one,
I've got Christine's wedding photo, and she appears to look quite abit younger than Alfred who she married.
She died in 1972 so  maybe I should search the births from around 1880 onward, was it normal for women to knock 10 years off there ages in those days.

Hello Jo-and-Tim & welcome to RootsChat

Your early post seems to be rather a puzzle  ???  ???

If the exact date has been given by her son on the death certificate -  I would think the day at least is correct & probably the year. She may have been a little "inventive" on her marriage certficate as she was a couple of years older than her husband.

It was relatively common for the father of an illegitimate child to be "made up" and listed on a marriage certificate - by using deceased - no-one was trying to find him - but there certainly doesn't seem to be a Christine or Caroline Shepherd/Shephard in the indexes for 1890 so William Shephard being a step father (or marrying her mother after the birth ) may be a better option.

The Caroline from Warwick appears to have been registered Dec Qtr 1889.

There was a discussion on another thread about searching registers at District offices - would it be an option to search for all births on the date you have been given? FreeBDM doesn't seem to respond to a search by given name only  :(
