Marriage CHARD - FOX to DRAPER
« on: Monday 07 May 07 12:35 BST (UK) »
Have been talking to a young lady (will call her Jane) over the Bank Holiday weekend who is anxious about find out about her family. Jane's mother was adopted at the age of 9 and is sadly deceased.  She knows very little and has asked for my help - so I am relying on the v.good Somerset Lookup people to assist.

Jane's maternal biological grandmother was Iris FOX.

Iris's parents were Henry FOX and Lilian DRAPER who apparently married in CHARD SOMERSET Dec Q 1923.  Can anyone confirm this marriage please, plus any other info on the entry.

Thank you for your help.

According to the GRO Marriages Index the only DRAPER marriage at Chard in the period was Florence P. to Henry J. FOWLER 4Q 1923 Chard 5c 785.

It appears this might have been a 'mature' marriage if the parties are those residing at Crewkerne in 1891.

I am not from Somerset but can I add my twopennerth?  If possible Jane should start with her mother's birth certificate and go from there.  There may be slight discrepancies in names etc which may throw her off the right track otherwise.  If her great grandparents married in 1923 then some of the close relatives may still be living so it is a bit of a minefield.  (Can it really be as late as that?  Makes me feel ancient as my parents married not long after that!))
As all the BMDs are free to search on www.ancestry.co.uk it might be worth widening the search for the marriage in case the year is wrong.
Good luck with the hunt.
Andrea

Dee-jay,

Now I am worried!

I have double checked this marriage on Ancestry's GRO marriage index :

Henry J Fox to DRAPER Dec Q 1923 Taunton 5c 785

Can you confirm that you can now find it?
J

Dee-Jay,

Ahhha!  I see what I have done.  I have read Fowler for FOX.
My sincere apologies.  Back to the drawing board.

Pleeeese help me, I am now in a muddle.  Can I attempt a little tree to try to make things easier?

Jane's mother was Judy Govier b.1946

Judy's parents
Philip and Iris Govier (formerly Fox).  Iris b.1926
(have marriage certificate)

Iris' parents
Henry and Lilian Irene Fox (formerly Draper)
Info taken from Iris's birth certificate

I am trying desperately to get a fix on the marriage of Henry Fox and Lilian Irene Draper.

Thankyou.  Any help or advice would be sooo gratefully received.

Both those surnames were relatively scarce in the region.  Have to break off now but I'll pursue it further this evening.

Update:  This thread is now at an end.  The marriage took place elsewhere.
