Thanks for the helpful replies.  I don't think there is a Preston connection on my side, but who knows.  I have started a new thread titled Edward Lucas as Annie suggested so here's hoping!

Sorry there is no connection.  I have been trying to find more about William and Mary(Haig) but no luck.  I  did realise I had said William was William Lawrence. That is wrong.  His son is William Lawrence but that is irrelevant if we are not the same family.
