a google brought up this thread that mentions Gutlip - have you been in contact with this person who appears to be researching the same family?

ChristineR  :)

edit : the same post has Gutlip in England, aged 60 in 1841, born 'foreign parts'

The 84th Regiment was the 84th Punjabis. Between 1824-1885 it was called the 24th Regiment  Madras  Native Infantry.  Gutlip Shubart was most probably a Punjabi.  Do you think he might have returned to his native land (now Pakistan)?

Check out www.online.justice.vic.gov.au
You will find deaths in Victoria for David Stanley Shubart and Thomas Edgar Shubart, both children of David Henry Shubart and Elizabeth Ann Lee.

Hi Jan yes its me again still hunting them SHUBARTS. ;D

The Shubarts ( Gutlip) you found on familysearch are the ones I'm trying to tie up with my lot,
David Stanleys (b/1898) father (my g-grandfather) was a David (b/1872 India) and also his g-grandfather was a David (b/1826 Ireland) its this one I'm trying to connect to Gutlip,
Its to much of a coincidence for David and Gutlip not to be related,as they were in the same Regt at the same time in the same place in India,
also Gutlip called his son David and Shubart spelled this way is not a name I'm comming across much,in fact the ones I do find are mine.

Thanks Cando, for the picture of David Stanley I did not come across it in my hunt, nice surprise,

Thanks Diana, but my research into the 84th Regt is York & Lancaster's which is a British Regt. Yes the deaths of David Stanley and Tomas Edga are mine,

Hi Christiner, SORRY thats me, I'm on the India List .That Gutlip is to old and the spelling is Schubert,

I hope all this makes sense, this is a complicated lot,I have trouble getting my head round them to many DAVIDS

Have you seen them both listed at the same time in the same documentation? Is it at all possible that they are the same person? just thought I would ask.

That Gutlip is to old and the spelling is Schubert

Do you know how old Gutlip is supposed to be? as you say you know nothing about this family apart from your opening information.   And I certainly would ignore the spelling - those days these things were just not that exact - it may have been written 'correctly' on the householder schedule but copied wrongly on to the enumeration sheet. All sorts of reasons, it may not have been Gutlip who supplied the information.
