CAN ANYONE HELP , PLEASE REGARDING EXICUTION
« on: Sunday 05 December 04 16:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone  ,
I wondered if anyone could help me ? whilst resercing my family tree my gt gt grandad WILLIAM STANWAY born Congleton Cheshire 1841 was supposed to have gone to Ohio  to work family story has it that he was there only a month and died ? however my reasearch into his death have proved negative , however i have come across a WILLIAM STANWAY who was executed at Cheshire prison February 21st 1881 for the murder of ANN MELLOW'S .     I am begining to wonder if this could be him due to having found no evidence of his immigration to Ohio , i know that by 1891 census his wife was described as a widow aged 47 and William his self would have been in his 40 's when he died , so my main question is how could i find if this was my William or another one how could i obtain detail's of the William who was exicuted to see if he was my gt gt grandfather and the story of him emigrating to Ohio to be a builder was just a cover up in the family ?
I would be eternally grateful to anyone who could offer any assistance in this matter .

This is on the Cheshire BMD site

Cheshire Death indexes for the years: 1881
Surname Forename(s) Age Sub-District Registers At Reference
STANWAY William 31 Chester Castle Cheshire West CAS/41/50

If this is the one you found- then no he is not yours- too young.
Have you pinpointed him down on the 1871 or 81 censuses and what's his wifes name?

Is this them in 1871? They are at Brindly Ford and William is a bricklayer.

Anne Maria Stanway 2  Brindly Ford Daughter  Wedgewood  Staffordshire
Elizabeth Stanway 26  Audley, Staffordshire, England Wife  Wedgewood  Staffordshire
Mary Jane Stanway 5  Brindly Ford Daughter  Wedgewood  Staffordshire
Matilda Eliza Stanway 4 months  Brindly Ford Daughter  Wedgewood  Staffordshire
William Stanway 30  Congleton, Cheshire, England Head  Wedgewood  Staffordshire

If this is correct I should be able to follow them through.

Regards,

Carol

Betsy Ellen Stanway abt 1878  Derby Lane, Staffordshire, England Daughter  Biddulph
Elizabeth Stanway abt 1841  Halmerend, Staffordshire, England Wife  Biddulph
Hannah M. Stanway abt 1869  Blk Bull, Staffordshire, England Daughter  Biddulph
James W. Stanway abt 1874  Blk Bull, Staffordshire, England Son  Biddulph

William Stanway abt 1841  Congleton,  Son
Elizabeth Stanway abt 1844  Congleton,  Daughter
Stephen Stanway abt 1848  Congleton,  Son

Charles Wright abt 1830  Norwich Lodger  Silk spinner
