Scarlet Merrions
« on: Thursday 24 May 07 19:26 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me anything about the Scarlet Merrions?  I believe they were a music hall type of act in c1910.  They performed in a small theatre at the Great Orme, Llandudno.  Don't know if this was a permanent venue or whether they travelled around the country.  I would really like to find the names of the individuals but can find nothing about them although I have a couple of postcards.

There is currently a postcard dealer on Ebay called "Olle" or very similar who is researching the history of Llandudno. From the amount of cards he/she has and the age (about 1900 to 1910)I'd say it would be worth finding his/her website and sending them an email.
If I come across it I'll post a link in here to the website. I have heard of this group as I buy and sell North Wales postcards (no I'm not advertising!) but have never thought to find out about them. You have aroused my curiosity now  ::)

The above is the url for their forum and now I see where the Ebay nickname came from

I have just listed on eBay a programme for The Merrions (not Scarlet at this time) a trio of guys that did a singing/mime/ventriloquial entertainment c.1890 or 1900.  The programme includes names for the three in the act. Have look at item number 193673930029.

Try this link to the National Library of Wales website for newspapers online. A search for "scarlet merrions" gives a few dozen links to North Wales newspapers in the 1900's.
