Sanderson's of Alnwick
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 07:07 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have acess to the PR's of Alnwick to help me with this family?

It is the children of Henry and Rachel Sanderson. They married in 1855 and started to produce children in 1851 but i can't find many baptisms on the IGI.
I have Elizabeth May  [1852] and Jane [1856] I have also found via the various census Joseph [1851] Henry George [1858] and robert Welsh [1855] but no sign of baptisms. There also a couple of gaps and wondered if they had children that did not survive as long as a census.

Also a marriage Henry george married a lady called [i Think] Isobella about 1888. again it is not on IGI nor freebmd. They had two wonderfully named daughters Irene Ethelsmyth Prinbury in 1889 and Anselm Dudbridge in 1890. I can only find the two children but wondered if there are more

The Sanderson's were grocers and wine merchants in the town.

Many thanks for any help

Cullen,

Didn't they marry in 1850, not 1855 ?

There's a marriage for Henry George Sanderson 1888 March Quarter Tynemouth 10b 271 not listed on freebmd (which is not completely transcribed yet).  Then freebmd shows a marriage for an Isabella Jane Pigg same reference - so perhaps this is the right one?

Michael,

Yes, it was 1850 not 1855, a slip of the fingers - or memory!

Barbara

Many thanks for that marriage, I had looked on Freebmd and not found it and yes, it is the right one, and yes, i had got the census info but thank you for the thought.

Many thanks to both of you for your help

Hi Cullen, I realise this is a pretty old thread. I have been researching my husband's Strothers in Alnwick who were several generations of merchants and owned property near the Market Place & in Narrowgate among others. I came across this image (I believe this was the Strother's shop & warehouse, they sold the wine & spirits business in 1806) It's small & not great quality but definitely reads Sanderson
Newson, Steavenson, Walker, Taylor, Dobson, Gardner, Clark, Wilson, Smith, Crossland, Goldfinch, Burnett, Hebdon, Peers, Strother, Askew, Bower, Beckwith, Patton, White, Turner, Nelson, Gilpin, Tomlinson, Thompson, Spedding, Wilkes, Carr, Butterfield, Ormandy, Wilkinson, Cocking, Glover, Pennington, Bowker, Kitching, Langhorn, Haworth, Kirkham.
