I'm at present writing a history of Kidsgrove which will include that of Clough Hall Park and Pleasure Gardens. This enterprise opened in early 1890 , had a cap in 1894 when it seemingly didn't open and finally closed in 1907, the fitments being auctioned off in early 1907. Therefore your fascinating photo of the entrance turnstyles in the Avenue Kidsgrove must be tween those years. When and if my book gets published, I would be interested to know whether you could let me use your picture as an illustration, as our local library, which has a collection of local photos, does not include this one. Regards, Philip R. Leese.

Hi Phil
I purchased this photo off a popular commercial website to saved it just for your sort of proposal, I am a member of 'your' library and am at 21 CHRd.
The pic is on staffs past track also but I would like natter with you on Goldenhill too. No problem with using it, just wondered if gates were reused nearby opp Wade school or close by corner Boathorse rd.?

Well, well. For some reason I thought you were in North Wales, rather than just round the corner! I hope my reply was of some use, though it doesn't get us down to a specific year. Closer examination and maybe some knowledge about costume history might pin it down a little closer. If you want to pop round, I'm in Ravenscliffe Road, though it's as well to check if I'm in ( (*)) or catch me in the Library after my local history class which breaks up at 12:30 on Tuesdays. Regards, Philip.

I believe the two pillars either side of the Clough Hall turnstile entrance are now either side of the entrance to the Kidsgrove Memorial Garden; check out that circle or dimple on both pillars.
Gareth.

I wish to contact Philip Leese on the subject of Military History in Goldenhill/Kidsgrove and the Rifleman Inn. I am a member of the Goldenhill Memories Group but my abode is somewhat distant - in Canberra, Australia. Can we chat via Messenger on Facebook? Alan J Jones
