COMPLETED - Will - Can anyone Read this 2?
« on: Tuesday 05 June 07 20:02 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

After the success of the first post, I hope you will indulge me with another bit of the same will (there are more as well!).  If anyone can please have a look and see if they can read the missing word I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks
Jean

I have:

"....principal shares as shall then remain and become vested and be divided ........? and paid to the parties entitled thereto in the same proportions and in the same manner as their original shares or share  And I authorise my trustees.....

Hi IGS,

I seen that but thought it related to taxable values - however have just checked the online dictionary and found rateably as the adverb form of rateable which shows:
1.  That can be rated, estimated, or appraised
2.  Proportional: rateable distribution of wealth
3.  Chiefly British Liable to assessment; taxable

So I think you are absolutely right with this and many thanks!

Jean

Do you think that little curlicue after "divided" was just a slip of the pen, a smudge, or something meaningful? I can't tell.

It is neither it is an annotation used by the writer to show that the text continues on the next line and stops anything being added at a later time.  It appears a lot on will from the PCC.

Thanks Rob!

More learning on Rootschat for me.  Had often wondered what these little curly things were!  Much appreciated. ;D

Hi,

Yes I puzzled for a while over the squiggles, but they are common in wills to stop later additions as Rob says.

Thanks all for the help,

Jean
