Hi Eryka

I am wondering what information you are looking for -

There are resource links in the Qld genealogy post at the top of this board.

A number of Garbutt birth death and marriage records on

http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/IndexSearch.htm

Records only go to 1914 but the website did have a notice that they are intending to extend the date to 1929 - from memory :-[

Cheers

Hi Eryka

If it's information regarding Births, Deaths and Marriages that you need, then you can search the Queensland BDM Index online these days.  You can find it here :-

www.justice.qld.gov.au

You will find the link to the BDM at the top of the page.  When that page loads, on the right hand side you will find the link to the online index.

Cheers

Thanks guys I was unaware that this site was available, found several of my Garbutt's there.

I am trying to prove that our branch of Garbutt's are related to the Townsville mob (as family law has it). Have just found that the suburb is named after Charle Garbutt's family. I think he is the son of William and Anne, she bought the chidren Charles, Arthur and John to Australia after William died.

Well, it sounds like you have got a start on things anyway.
When you say 'our branch of....' what district are you speaking of?Where is your branch?
There are some burials and other records for Garbutt's in Qld. and Nsw and Vic, but not much use posting them if we don't know what information you have.  Don't want to go off n the wrong track.

Jamesb.1829  and Agnes Garbutt nee Hull b.1837 and thier girls Elizabeth , Margaret and Anne plus son James b.1873 came to Brisbane on the Roddel Bay in 1878. They had a son William according to the census but he is not on ships maifest.

James and Agnes came from Dorrington in Durham, but the Garbutts came from Kirby in Cleveland, and Bilsdale Yorkshire.

A Stephen Garbutt from Liverton migrated to Moss Vale NSW area and began the Garbutts of the Canberra region. Have not found a link yet.

Charles Garbutt from Townsville is rumoured to be related and I am trying to prove this connection.

Did you know that Agnes and James are interred together at Toowong Cemetery?
Agnes died in 1916 and James in 1894
There is another James, likely their son as the birth to death age match.  He died in 1949  He is at Balmoral cemetery and is with a Reginald Percival Garbutt who died in 1979 aged 73.
There are other Garbutts there also including an Ann. Garbutt

Thank you I did not have death dates for these relatives. Ann was child of James and Agnes.
