G'day Members,

Of more recent times, the GARBUTTs of Townsville District were well-known, particularly Bill GARBUTT of Ingham

"Bill Garbutt, former mayor of Ingham, killed in a plane crash on/near Thorntons Gap, Hervey Range in 1977.
All of Mr Garbutt's relatives still live in Ingham so contacting any of those remaining relatives would probably produce lots of information.

The Garbutts (of Ingham), listed in the local Townsvlle & District phone book, are:-

                GO Garbutt      Cooks Lane              Cordelia   +61 7  4777 7230
                P & D Garbutt   457 Cooks Lane      Cordelia   +61 7  4777 7244"

This information supplied by Mr Bill GARBUTT of Townsville, nephew of the above Bill GARBUTT.

Hope this is of assistance

Hello Jenn,

I forgot to mention that Bill GARBUTT as well as being the Mayor, was also Chairman of the North Queensland Regional Electricity Board, based in Townsville.

If my memory is correct, those deceased in the plane crash had all been attending a State Electricity Boards' Meeting.

Hello, I just saw this site and thought you might be interested in my connection.  Charles Garbutt was my great grandfather.  My grandmother was Dorothy Garbutt.  She was one of Charles' 13 children born in the old bark homestead at Ravenshoe.  She married Harvey Tice in Townsville and that is where my father Charles Tice was born in 1920.  My Dad is 90 and still as sharp as a tack!
Kind regards
Cherry

That would make you a, not too distant, cousin of mine.  Who are your grandparents? The Garbutt one would be my Dad's first cousin.  He left Townsville when he was 10yo (91 now) so didn't really know or remember many Garbutt relatives.  We live in Victoria now.

G'day Gerry

Just to avoid any confusion, the Mount Cotton and Cleveland in these postings

have similar property/locality names to adjoining areas in south-east Queensland.

Hope this helps.
