Sefton Relatives
« on: Thursday 14 June 07 14:30 BST (UK) »
My Gt Gt Gt Grandfather James Sefton I have found on the 1841 and 1851 census,s  as being born in what looks like Hanley? Stafford  aged 64 , together with wife Lydia born in Chapel en le Frith  Derbys. ( no maiden name for her unfortunately),and family, but nowhere have I been able to find a marriage for James and Lydia, and Seftons in Staffordshire seem thin on the ground!  Can anyone move me on from this brickwall?

Thanks
Obadiah

Hi obadiah
I don't think I will be able to help you much but curious to know what address you have for 1841 and 1851, also what year was eldest child born. There is a Henley in Stoke which might have been classed as Staffordshire back then.

Hi, Elaine,
Thanks for that.  On both 1841 and 1851 census' James and Lydia are in Thomas Street Stockport, together with my Gt Gt Grandmother Emily, and family. (She married twice).  As far as I can make out, the eldest child I have found for James & Lydia is Samuel who was born circa 1816 in Stockport. Emily born circa 1822.

Thank you all.  Have now found the marriage for James & Lydia in Cheadle, Cheshire.  Details on a later post, but still trying to find James' birth. Ah, well, I'll get there someday!

Obadiah.

Alfred Sephton VC was my grandfathers cousin. He was born in Warrington and later resided in Wolverhampton. His VC was stolen whilst on display at Coventry Cathedral.
