McAuliffe - Cork
« on: Friday 12 March 04 21:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi, trying to trace my family but don't know exactly where in Cork they came from. John McAuliffe was born c1812 and wife Margaret c1818, children Mary c1842, Patrick c1844, Honora c1847 all born in Cork. Then no info until a child John born in Marylebone, London in 1857. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Stiofan

HI,

I recommend searching the Griffiths Valuation and various Cork directories here for John McAuliffe.

This will throw up a few matches.

Then go to the parish records to search for the children's births. These are available to search in Ireland in the National Library.

Regards

Hi Simon11 in Meath

Take a trip to the National Library in Kildare Street with all the information you currently have, certificates, letters, family legends, and talk to one of the genealogists who are there for the asking. Free. They'll point you inthe right direction. You could read their family history research leaflet available to download from their website.

Hi smurfy,

Check the birth indexes at your local family history centre or at the GRO in Dublin for Thomas's birth. I think it may also be on the latest version of the BVRI CDs. This will give you the parents.

Hi, I'm also searching for John McAuliffe, born in Cork abt. 1812. He married Margaret Fitzgerald in 1838. She was born 1815. Their first son, Patrick was born in 1839. in Cork. Other children were Hannah, Mary, Catherine, William, Jeremiah, Cornelious and Michael.  This is not your family as they crossed the big pond to Ontario, Canada. I'm wondering if you've come across this family while searching for your John McAuliffe. Thanks, Dorothy
