Hello,

I went to the Borthwick today & looked at the Parish Registers for Great Ouseburn, between 1792 & 1809.  The registers were easy to read for once, unfortunately I couldn't find anyone called Goodyear.

I did find the following family name & I wrote it down, just in case it was the correct family (although you would have to say it in a thick Yorkshire accent to make it sound anything like Goodyear!!).

Elizabeth, daughter of William & Mary Gudgeon bp. Jan 21 1798

William, son of William & Mary Gudgeon  born Oct 4 & Bp. 27 Oct 1799

Mary daughter of William (lab) & Mary Gudgeon, born June 13, bp. Feb 28
1802

Thomas son of William & Mary Gudgeon (lab), born Oct 11, bp. Oct 14 1803

Jane Gudgeon, parents as above, born Aug 23, bp. Sept 20 1807

John Gudgeon, parents as above, born Oct 14, bp. Dec 31 1809

Also William Clark (made a mark) of this parish    bachelor
Mary Gudgeon (made a mark) of this parish spinster
Banns 24 Nov 1804

No marriage of William & Mary Gudgeon, that I could find.

Sorry I couldn't find any Goodyears' for you, they could be in a neighbouring parish, if you get anymore leads & would like me to visit the Borthwick for you please let me know, although  I won't be going for at least two weeks now.

Louise

Hello, I am a Gudgeon and this is my line.  It seems that the Gudgeon/Goodgion/Goodyear names were interchangable for some reason.  I descend from Peter Goodgion b. 1700 Yorkshire, Eng and Margarett Fowston.  I also found records for them and their children under the name "Goodyear".  It's strange and I'm not sure why.  My name is spelled "Gudgeon" but it seems part of the family took the "Goodyear" name.
