Robert Maughan in 1851 in NBL?COMPLETED
« on: Friday 22 June 07 22:00 BST (UK) »
Hello all! I am seeking further information about Robert MAUGHAN who, according to the 1881 census, was born about 1835 in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham. The reason I am asking for a NBL look up is that Robert Maughan married both his first wife, Ann Richardson, in 1859 and second wife, Emily Warnes, I believe, in Newcastle in 1869. also, all of children, I believe, were born in NBL.  Can anyone find Robert Maughan in 1851 as a single person? It would also be a bonus if he could be found in 1861 with his first wife, Ann,  and one or two children. Thank you very much!  Pat

Thank you for the 1861 find.  Also, I am 99% certain that the 1851 census find is him; I did not know his parents names at all, so this is positively wonderful!  Thank you! Pat

Hi Pat,

Best way to be certain would be to get one of his marriage certs, for father's name and occupation

Will see if I can find them in 1841 now

Barbara

Hello Barbara, Thank you for the marriage information on Robert (both of them). I am certain we have the correct family due to naming patterns, among other reasons.  Also, Robert's Father, another Robert, b. abt 1798 in Haltwhistle, married Dorothy Greenwell 14 October 1826 in St. Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle. The interesting thing is that Dorothy Greenwell was born in Urpeth colliery, so there is the geographical connection -- so important in those days.  I REALLY appreciate your help on this family, as this Maughan family is the one that one of my great Aunts married into. Again, many, many thanks!  ;D Pat
