Hi Nanny Jan

Yes, I have looked there and also went to the records office this morning (but ran out of time!). I have hit a major stumbling block and cannot go any further back than last 1700s. There seems to be no trace of Sheppards before this time, so I have started looked at neighbouring parishes  ???

I am also trying to see where the link between the Shepherd families in WK is. Have looked at the guild of one name studies but they don't cover the name.

Best wishes
Rosie

Hi

Sorry this will be of no help to you, but possibly may be of interest, I was born in WK, when I was young a Mrs Sheppard lived next to the Church, and if my memory serves me correctly she also played the organ in the church.

Regards

Hi

My OH's father was from WK.  When I first made a start on this part of the family we met Miss Edna Sheppard who was the church secretary at that time. (She has since passed away.  :( She was a great help.)  She had a great grandmother, Hamutal Ballam (daughter of James), who married a Samual Sheppard in 1847.  Hamutal's half sister, Gentilla married George Sheppard in 1845.  Is this the family that you are working on?
These marriages at the time were still at the church so may fill in gaps for you.
As they aren't in our direct line I haven't gone further with them. Good luck with you searches.
