Hello Aimee

Is this the Rebecca Hardwick, age 25 b Little Staughton Beds, unmarried sister in law to William Burgess, who has down on same image as his daughter Amelia H (Burgess) age 1 on the 1851 census, living in Gt Staughton.

HO107/1750; Folio: 467; Page: 25

In 1861 Rebecca is William's wife (they married June 1857 St Neots RD 3b/467).

Regards John

Someone on LDS suggests that Rebecca Miles of Little Staughton married John Hardwicke on 12 MAY 1845 at Great Staughton, Huntingdon.

This is backed up by a FreeBMD marriage index at St Neots RD in June 1845 vol 14 page 318
(well both parties are on the same page)

John beat me to it, and has said what I've got, but more succinctly, but I'll post it anyway rather than chop and change it!

If you know the baptism details you should also know the parents??

There's a member submission on the IGI which shows what you have quoted plus father John Hardwicke. I NEVER trust member submissions.

I can't see a John and Rebecca Hardwick in Hunts in 1851, which is strange as there's a member submission for their marriage on the IGI and it does appear in the GRO index for the June quarter 1845. And I can't find an Amelia Hardwick in either 1861 or 1871.

She doesn't appear in 1851 in the GRO indices.

Do you have any details of her subsequent to 1851?

You need to view the Gt Staughton parish register microfilm at your nearest LDS Family History Centre and see if the baptism is real.  Unfortunately Gt Staughton hasn't been transcribed by Hunts FHS

In 1851 in Gt Staughton there's
William Burgess head widower 41 cordwainer b Rushden Northants
Eliza Burgess dau 13 b Rushden
Amelia H Burgess dau 1 b Gt Staughton
Rebecca Hardwick sister in law Unmarried 25 Housekeeper b Lt Staughton Beds

By 1861 William and Rebecca appear to have married.

There's a 15 year old Rebecca Miles in Lt Staughton in 1841.

I'm of a suspicious mind, and wonder if in 1851 Rebecca should have been described as widow rather than unmarried - although I can't see a death of John.

Could the H in Amelia Burgess in 1851 be Hardwick?

Regards

David

FreeBMB has birth index of Rebecca Amelia Hardwick in Jul-Sept 1849 at St Neots RD vol 14 page 237  - suggest you send off for the birth certificate to confirm the parents.

Interestingly on same page is Emma Miles - could be related - family perhaps  ?

1851 has Emma Miles daughter of James Miles age 30 b Eaton Socon

The IGI has extracted baptism of a James John Miles at Little Staughton on 16/03/1834 - only the mother is named as Elizabeth Miles.
The IGI also has a Baptism of Rebecca Miles at same place on same day with same only named mother.

& on that day there is Ann Miles aged 12 & Harriett age 10 & William Wallace Miles

Job lot ....

Ideally you need both the birth cert of Rebecca Amelia found by John, and the baptism entry, if it exists. Otherwise you have nothing to link the 1851 baptism and the birth - the link will hopefully be the parents. And if our assumptions about the 1851 census are correct you'll also need to find what happened to John Hardwick

... or find Amelia's marriage cert where it might name her father....

On 1871 found an Amelia, age 21 b Gt Staughton, wife of William GARKA, age 23 born Huntingdon, occupation Miller, living at Watermills, in Huntingdon st Mary.

RG10/1526; Folio: 146; Page: 25

Still on 1871, there is a grand-daughter Rose Ellen Garka, age 1 born Huntingdon, living with William & Rebecca Burgess in Gt Staughton.

Hello to you all
Thank you for all the information
I have  Rebecca Miles and siblings all baptised the same time and mother Elizabeth Miles Not sure what happened to their father
I sent for the birth certificate for Rebecca Amelia Hardwick July 1949 and it only has mother Rebecca Harwick no maiden name
The only thing I think is that on 1851 census Rebecca Hardwick (not sure where her husband John Hardwick was)
living with William Burgess and her daughter Amelia Hardwick had Burgess on to her name
There seem to be so many questions
I will go to the LDS family history and see if I can get the baptism for Gt Staughton
Thank you every one for the help
Really appreciated
Wish I had families that were easy to look up but what would I do with nothing to keep the brain going
Cheerio
Aimee
