they appear before the Sepion
This is Session not Sepion - in old handwriting they often used the 'long s' which makes the combination 'ss' look a bit like a 'p'.

This is how the name is transcribed on SP, hence why I did not find it.
SANDLANDS JEAN   WILLIAM SANDLANDS/JEAN PITTILLOE    5/03/1769   Pencaitland

HAMILTON   JOHN   JOHN HAMILTON/JEAN SANDILANDS    06/10/1799   Cranston

Another child has appeared, above, which did not show up earlier.
This would lead me to believe John seniors father was likely to be John and mother Isabel if they followed the Scottish naming pattern. One possibility below.

HAMILTON   JOHN     JOHN HAMILTON/ISABEL COCKBURN 11/06/1769   Inveresk and Musselburgh

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

When searching on SP use wildcards

s*nd*l*nd* will find all variants of Sandilands and p*t*l* will find all variants of Patullo/Pittilloe.

I have an interest in the Patullo line. Mine are from Perthshire and Edinburgh is not far away. Any expansion on your Pittiloe line?

cheers
