Hi Annie,
I thank you for your reply.
I am on the Lord Burghley William Cecil  FTDNA Project and our DNA base is Norse. The early known history of this branch of Cecil is centred around Stamford and they had landed interests in the Leic & Rutland area. So you can see the reason for my interest in the region. I was hoping to  make contact with one of the persons that you mentioned to further our research. To add to or confuse the picture the following facts are known -
The first mentioned [cecil] John Sitssylt was at the Seige of Lincoln 1141.
Surnames became popular about 1300 so the English names of Cecil[various], Howells, Harris, Gilbert,Word, Thomas, Webb, Perry & Hyatt also appear under the Burghley banner.
Is the Norse DNA direct via Vikings [Danelaw] or from 1066 Norman conquest?
The current centre of Cecil DNA test results is centred in the shires of Hereford, Gloucester, Brecon and Monmouth.
The Cecil DNA tree has not cracked it to match the current 'paper' trail of the testees. But this is being worked.
Burghley had work done on his genealogy that does not mention anything on norse roots and claims kinship to Cecil of Wales. His family tree has been questioned.

Cheers
Jack Gee
