1871/1891/1901 census St Helier
« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 15:13 BST (UK) »
I have just discovered some of my family moved to St Helier prior to 1871. I'm looking in 1871 for Orlando Glendewar born 1824 Cornwall, wife Winifred born c1832 Cornwall, children Orlando born 1853 and Winifred born 1871. address  only as St Helier

In 1881 Orlando senior is residing at 24 Pier Road, St Helier with wife Winifred and sons Thomas age 19, William aged 15 .
Orlando junior aged 26 is residing Garden  Cottage number 1, with wife Georgina aged 23, son Orlando aged 2 and mother in law Elizabeth Ching aged 67.

I would be grateful for any information from 1871/1891 and 1901 censuses.

thank you
Mo

Hi Ricky

Thank you so much for that.  The strange thing is that the brothers of Orlando Glendewar, who remained in Devon, were called Dewar with Glenn as their second Christian name. I wonder if it was illiteracy that led to them adopting the name Glendewar.

Thanks again
