Hi could the village have been Mucton?
If so how far from Awliscome church would that have been?
Louisa pursey married Thomas Webber Moore (from Luppit) there in 1848.
Do they have occupations on the census?
many thanks wozzle
I'm in Australia and can't begin to thank you enough

This could be helpful! Nic
The most contentious point is the figure of "Richard Percy of Deer Park, Devon" in England.  He is a crucial link as family lore claims that he is a son of Hugh Percy, second Duke of Northumberland.
However despite extensive searching little can be found about him.
What is verified is that "Richard Pursey" was the father of Louisa Matilda Percy who married Thomas Webber Moore - a copy of the marriage certificate is in Ralph Ballard's possession.  In addition "Richard Pearsey" is listed in the 1841 census as residing at a farm close to the Moore farm in Luppitt, Honiton, Devon, England.  Note that prior to the 1900's there was little consistency in spelling surnames - the sound of the name was the key.  Hence the same surname could be spelled variously as Percy, Pursey, Pearcey, etc.

Have since discovered Richard is in fact a PURSSEY. He married Harriet (FRAUNCEIS) Griffith in Stogumber, Somerset in 1808 - by licence.

Richard died Gittisham, Devon in 1828. His son Richard died New York, 1851. Louisa Matilda was by 1851, the wife of Thomas Moore
