Hi Kerryb,
Must have been too late at night for me the other day - Angelina was born in Bury St Edmunds SUFFOLK!
In 1901 she was living with some of the Landers Children at ! Black Rock Cottage, Rottingdean. RG13/919 Folio 87 page 9

Angelina Hutchison  Head  Wid  49  Hotel Manager retired  Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, ENG
Mary Jane Lander  Dau  S  35  Housekeeper Domestic  Rottingdean, Sussex, ENG
Alice B Lander  dau  S  22 School teacher   Rottingdean, Sussex, ENG
Walter  Lander  Son 19  Builders Clerk   Rottingdean, Sussex, ENG
It's interesting she's using her married name but claiming the Landers children as son & daughters!

Hi scrapppyshaz

It looks like David's wife died quite early on perhaps she and David were 'together' for a while and perhaps she describes herself as widow because of his death not her husbands!!

Angelina was in London with her husband Richard in 1881 giving her birthplace as Mildenhall, Suffolk.  She had downsised her age by about 4 years. RG11 /0055 / 88 / 47.
Presumably any relationship with David or his family must have been after that date and none of the children could have been hers.

It went before I could finish so I continue......

As his wife died in 1883, the 1891 census should be revealing.
Can someone look it up.

The 1901 has David Lander on it, so he was still alive then, but not recorded with his family.  Do you think he was working the night shift at the gas works and although the children were in the care of their elder sister in their father's house, the enumerator's record has led you to believe Angelina was acting as their mother in his absence?

1891 is the one I looked up right back at the top of this message.   ;D ;D
But Angelina is not there, presumably still with her husband?

Cant tell you exactly where David was because that would mean I had to purchase a 1901 certificate.
The 1901 index however, gives the following.
David  Lander
age 61 Sussex
Rollingdean Sussex
Rottingdean
Yard Foreman
You may not have been able to fid it because the transcript calls his place of origin as Rollingdean
