1861 look up Alexander Completed
« on: Monday 16 July 07 17:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can anyone locate the household of Ruth Eliza Alexander in the 1861.
James Alexander was b Loddon abt 1812
Ruth Eliza was b abt 1841 Heckingham
I am particularly interested in Ruth's siblings if any.

Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan,

I can't see Ruth in 1861 ... James is living all on his own.

Are you assuming James is Ruth's father?

There is a Ruth Alexander age 1 month in the Heckingham workhouse in 1841, and the IGI has a christening, Ruth (not Ruth Eliza) Alexander, 22 May 1841, Heckingham, mother Eliza (no father) ... any use?

Tati,

How interesting.

This is definitely the family,

Ruths mother Eliza died before 1851 and the 1851 census has Ruth Eliza living with her father James in Gravel Pits, Loddon Rosetta, Norfolk

Many thanks

Alan

It doesn't say that James is her father in 1851, does it? She's granddaughter to the head of family...

Have you got any evidence that James is her father? The christening looks like she was illegitimate, don't you think? (Also, just for the record, she wasn't registered as Ruth Eliza)

Tati,

Of course you are right, as James was widowed in the 1851 and although Ruth is grand daughter to the head of the household I have assumed perhaps wrongly that Ruth is the daughter of James.I wonder if the 1841 holds any clues?

I wish!

I can't see Eliza or James at all  :(

Only family I see is grandma:
HO107/779 14 32 6
Loddon, Norfolk
Gravelpit?

Francis Alexander, 60, Butcher
Frances, 60
Francis Jr, 17, Ag lab
Elizabeth Smith, 25
Emily Smith, 1

There's a marriage in the Loddon registration district in 1843 for an Eliza Alexander to Robert Grimmer. I wonder if she's our girl ... but I can't see her in 1851.
