Cornelius Chamberlain in Epworth please
« on: Wednesday 18 July 07 00:50 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for the birth or baptism of Cornelius Chamberlain/lin/lyn etc.  I think he was possibly born in the Epworth area c1790.

He married in Somerset in 1815 and died there in 1837.

I am lead to Lincolnshire because Cornelius' daughter Sarah was living in Epworth with her 'uncle' also Cornelius Chamberlain(born c1771) in 1851.

I think the older 'uncle' Cornelius' parents were Cornelius (b c1740) and Mary (nee Scholefield).  So these could possibly be my Cornelius' grandparents?

Any help gratefully received

Debbie

Sorry for the delay in replying...

Thanks Wozzle & GeoffE, that's definitely my Cornelius.

Kate, huge thanks to you.  A lot of these must be connected to my family, so will keep me busy trying to connect them up.

Debbie  :)

Hello Anne  :)

I think my Cornelius Chamberlain may well be part of the same line.  I am fairly sure his 'Uncle Cornelius' who his daughter Sarah lived with, was the grandson of John and Elizabeth.  I know 'Uncle' was often used for any male of an older generation so I suppose they could be cousins of some sort.  It doesn't look like my Cornelius was baptised in Epworth so I will have to look at the surrounding villages.  I did wonder about Robert and Jane's son Cornelius baptised Epworth in 1803.  Only problem with him is that my Cornelius married my 4x gt grandmother Fanny Day in Shipham, Somerset in August 1815!  Fanny was only about 18.  Cornelius, when he died in 1837 was said to be 47, making him about 25 at the time of his marriage.  Even if he wasn't baptised as a baby I think it is unlikely that they are the same person...unfortunately  :(

Thanks for your help

Debbie  ;)

Hi Debbie,

I'm planning a trip to the libarary maybe tomorrow (don't hold me to that) to recheck the census and another few bits and bobs.
I must admit with it not being my direct line of search I don't know much about our Cornelius so I'll go back and say hello to him and see if he will reveal a few secrets.

All the best, Anne.

I don't know if you are in contact with Roger but I gave him my e-mail addressbecause it makes it easier to send  scan listsand the like. If you don't want me to know your e-mail I quite understand.

I also told Roger that I live in Scunthorpe which is only about 10 miles from Epworth so all the parish records are in our Library. Unfortunately I went today to look up the census and Baptism records and the council staff are on strike so I was not amused. You get all fired up to do something and end up feeling like a lead balloon :(  Oh! well there's another day.

All the best, Anne.
