Where is Aldford?
« on: Wednesday 18 July 07 17:53 BST (UK) »
My GGG Grandfather was born and raised in a place called 'Aldford' somewhere in Ireland, he then married and moved to Scotland, does anyone know where Aldford could be?

I'm guessing it may be one of the old style mining villages that may have vanished off any maps.

checked on www.thecore.com/seanruad and closest townland is ALDERFORD in Kilronan Parish, Co. Roscommon. Townland names have stayed the same for centuries so it's unlikely to be a village that vanished off any maps. Is there supposed to be a link to mining?

Many thanks for your reply.

In this area of Scotland where I live, there are hundreds of villages that have vanished, I just supposed that perhaps the same thing had happened to 'Aldford'. :)
