WWII exemption index?

I'm not sure if this question has ever been asked before, but does anyone know if there is an index of males who were exempt from fighting and if so where it would be held?

I seem to recall that there is a list of conscientous (sp?) objectors but my ancestor would be exempt for medical reasons
