Don,   I was suggesting it was Arthur Bedford as they are on the same marriage index page that is on FreeBMD.  John

Hi John
My mother was born  Holbeach 1911, which was before Lucy and William married. On mothers birth certificate no father is shown although she was given a second christian name of Maycock. Lucy was shown as a domestic servant (general) and living at Bell End , Whaplode.  Lucy was still a teenager while William would have been 35, so I should think there would have been a bit of scandal, which could be why they eventually married 5 years later in William's home town (Ramsey) and no family member signed the wedding certificate.

Arthur Bedford is on the Ramsey 'Roll of Honour' Private 20719, 1/5th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Killed in action 22nd August 1916. Born and enlisted Ramsey. Formerly 251, Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion.

There is also an Edgar Maycock, 160563 Pte, 38th Btn Machine Gun Corps. Died 9-11-18, age 25. Son of Sam & Elizabeth Maycock, 1 Gunthorpe Rd, Werrington, Peterborough. Native of Ramsey Hollow

The mystery continues. Arthur S Bedford married in 1914 (Oct Nov Dec) and his spouse was a BOWERS !! Where did she come from ? I have some details of the large family living in Sutton St James but she is not included in my list.
I believe the Maycock killed in WW1 was a brother of William.  I can find no trace of William being a fatility in the war.

John pointed out twice last night that Arthur Bedford appears to have married Jessie Bowers.

Jessie was the younger sister of Lucy and Fred. She appears in the family in 1901 aged 6.

Do you have the full 1901 census listing? If not I'll post it - all 10 children!

Tibby,

Lily/Liby Bedford is not necessarily Arthur Bedfords's wife; could be his sister, his brother's wife, .....

David (Bedfordshire Boy)
You were going to let me have a listing of the Maycock family, all ten children, from the 1901 Census. It would  be much appreciated if you are able to forward it on.

Don.
