Pudding Bag Lane Whittlesey.
« on: Sunday 29 July 07 12:09 BST (UK) »
Hi, while researching my family tree I came across my family living in Pudding Bag Lane Whittlesey 1851 and 1861 census. I was brought up in Whittlesey as were my parents but we have no recollection of this Lane. I have visited the Whittlesey library to see if they have any info about Pudding Bag lane, they had no record of it, but had had other people inquiring. Does anyone know where it was or where I can find out where it was. Going on other street names on the same census's we think it may be in the Syers Lane, Inghams Road area of Whittlesey.

Many thanks.
Harrygeorge.

Hi Harry,

Pudding Bag Lane may have had its name changed over the years to something else. An example is Walker Lane in Kettering it used to be called Pudding Bag Lane because it was a cul de sac why the name changed I have no idea.

Pudding bag lane is quite a common name as there is one in Pilsgate and one in Exton.

Good luck with your research.

Thanks for that,

Alot of the area has been re developed since the 1800's, I was just hoping someone may have known where it was. Alot of the streets in Whittlesey before they were named were called A Number, Private Road, I have managed to locate alot of these and put names to them, but Pudding Bag Lane still remains a mystery.

I don't suppose you made any progress with this. I too have a relative whose address was given as Pudding Bag Lane, Whittlesey.

Thanks

Andy

Thanks Jenb,

I am not sure if this the correct road I am looking for. 2 reasons, the census records that included Puddingbag Lane had roads in the area that still exist, secondly the Wype Road in Eastrea still exists and is atleast 3 miles away.

Andybush; I have visited the Whittlesey Museum and they are unable to locate the position for me. Who were your relations living in the Lane? PM me their names we may have a connection!

Doesn't the description of the enumeration district help to narrow it down? Have you got the census reference?

Hi, it does narrow it down, but even the older folk of Whittlesey have no idea.
