BUCHANAN Ireland/Scotland
« on: Tuesday 14 December 04 04:19 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching my Buchanan family line.  I know they came to St. Charles, Maryland, United States, sometime prior to 1760.  I also know some of them migrated to North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

I believe they came to United States from Scotland but, I also have information that indicates they came to Scotland from Ireland.

The information I have is as follows:

Arthur Buchanan born January 24, 1742/1743, in Scotland
His father James Buchanan born in 1700, in Ireland/Scotland
His father Alexander Buchanan, born in Ireland

Some of the information I've collected includes:

Blairlusk (Scotland or Ireland???)
Donegal, Ireland (Tyrone, Duron, Devoran, Munster)

Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Vickie Wilson

I have records on some Buchanans from Scotland, namely the area near Strathblane, Stirlingshire.

Like your Buchanans my Duncans (from Strathblane) moved to that neck of the woods so to speak around the late 1760s.

Keep in mind that Glasgow was becoming a major trading place in those days.
