Hi Ecneps,

Buying varifocals off the net is a bit riskier than buying standard glasses.

First get a prescription from an Optician then go to,

       www.selectspecs.com.

Click on the British flag and on GB currencies.

All The treatments such as anti-dazzle, scratch Resistance, etc are all fitted as standard,
   i.e no extra cost.

                 Tomkin ;D ;D ;D

P.S. always read the small print and conditions.
From memory, standard glasses have a money back guarantee, Varifocals haven't.
Mine are perfect but I could have saved a further 5% if I'd paid by cheque >:( >:( >:(

Why not varifocals, Gadget??

Well for a start, because you don't have to try cameras on  ::)

What happens if they don't fit properly, Tomkin?  And why couldn't you have mentioned this to me before I splashed out on my Gucci ones  ::) ::)

Going right now to see if they sell the same frames on that site, which won't make me feel good at all if they do, so perhaps I won't  :-\

edit: just checked, no, thank goodness, they don't do Guccis ;D

Baked beans have nothing to do with cameras!

Gadget AKA -always to the point

As I can't afford a tripod I stand my camera on the baked bean cans.
You can reach a suitable height by adding or subtracting the appropriate
amount of cans.    If hungry you can consume the contents of one of the
cans providing that you don't spoil the composition of the shot.

If at an outdoor venue you can also sell the cans of baked beans when you have finished
    and make a tidy profit.

There's only one brand of baked beans I eat and it doesn't come in a stripey blue and white can.  Can't say I have ever tried to buy Baked beans off the net though, I really would have to be desperate, if I waited 3 days for the postman, I'd starve.

Anyway as Gadget says what's that got to do with cameras ::) ::) ::)

Ok for anyone interested, I've used my Canon Powershot S5 on holiday for a week and I am very happy with it.  It's a good camera, the only minus point is the lens caps which comes off too easily but as to its capabilities it does what I wanted, I am able to take closeups of birds, haven't tried any flowers - wrong time of year!

I'll post just a small handful of examples so that you can judge for yourselves.  First I think shows the colours perfectly.  The second I could not resist him!  It zoomed in quite nicely and coped well with animals and birds behind wires, something I could never quite master with my old camera.  It always focussed on the wire and not the beast behind!

Thanks guys I'm quite pleased with the outcome!  Yes all in Isle of Wight :)

Here are two which prove I got what I wanted, a camera to take pictures of birds from hides.  The first was from some distance and on 48x zoom and not too bad I think.  The second was closer, about 15 foot in front of the hide again on 48x zoom.
