We have just got the Fugi FinePix S5700. You could just consider the same manufacturer
 http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2007/07/20/Fujifilm-FinePix-S5700/p1

I have seen some good reviews for that one, that's marching up the list of favourites I have to say.

I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ5 which I'm well pleased with - it has a great 12x optical, 48x digital zoom, is very lightweight and small by comparison with the EOS. It's now been replaced by the FZ7 which is similar http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfz7/page14.asp

Hi Shaun

Another one on my list of possibles, again good reviews.  48x digital zoom - cool  ;D

Hi Kerry

Because it's an SLR, you can buy other lenses for it AND you'll be able to frame the shot in the lens and be able to see what your photo will look like before you shoot. This is never satisfactory with non-SLRs, however good.

Hi Gnu

That's the bit I don't fancy, having to change lens, I'm bound to get dust in them, although I do take your point about framing the shot.

Hi Kerry

Mine is a fuji S5600 and I'm no professional but i have produced some quality pictures with this camera, I even take the shots when my sons soccer team plays and have been really impressed with the results.
Fuji is definitely a descent brand.

Lil

I've agree, I've had some brilliant pictures with my current Fuji camera, the tulip avatar was a recent one.  They seem to have a good reputation.

I shall have to check out whether their latest has the image stabilisation which would help me no end!!!

Thanks to you all for your help.

I now have a small number of choices I want to go and have a closer look at, feel the weight etc.  I'll let you know when I make my decision.

   Hi Kerry,

You didn't mention the Price that you were willing to pay!

I have just purchased an 18X  Optical Zoom NON SLR Olympus.
I can supposedly achieve 100X zoom by also using the digital interpolation
Like most modern cameras it has Macro & super Macro mode and
          Digital Image stabilisation.

Forget Digital Zoom.  You achieve the same results by "blowing Up " the picture
      on your computer software.

Still messing with it so I can't say how good it is.
