Bodmin Gaol
« on: Saturday 04 August 07 16:00 BST (UK) »
I am looking for my greatgreatgrandfather Henry Phillips, I know he married Jane Tamblyn at Stoke Climsland in 1845 by 1851 I think she is described as a widow (census not clear).
The only record of a Henry Phillips in 1841 of about the correct age is in Bodmin Gaol, does the record office have more details of inmates of this time, there is a list of executions at the gaol, but I have been unable to find anything else online.

hi there,
i am looking for records too but much later than yours, anyway if you go to a2a then click search and type in keyword bodmin gaol a list of the assises records will come up and you may just get lucky its worth a try.
if not you will have to contact cornwall records office who will be able to tell you where the records are held as some are in truro and some in redruth

happy hunting and goodluck

Hi Krissy

Thanks for your help, I have been in touch with Truro and they are in the process of indexing the residents. If I cannot find anything online I will pay a visit

Great Aunt Amelia  was never in Bodmin Gaol!  She was rescued by the nuns at St Faith House of Mercy  and worked in their laundry - doing washing for Lanhydrock House amongst others.
