Thank you one an'all, that got you scratching your heads  But I think Judy is right.

The lady in question was a lodger as was the chap I am researching, who went on to be a hosiery manufacturer in Nottingham, and is supposed to have presented the first pair of silk stockings to Queen Victoria (don't know if that is verified or not), but Judy's answer seems to fit.

Judy would love to know what your great grandfather's name was...wouldn't it be a coincidence if it was the same chap?
