John Osborne
« on: Thursday 16 August 07 11:29 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm looking for any family tree's, information, birth records, etc, on a John Osborn. On the Muster Rolls of the St Helena Artillery (East India Company) in the South Atlantic, says that John was born in Nottingham(Shire ?) in around 1717(?). John was a Gunner. :)
I would welcome any help please!

"I have found a John Osborne, who was christened on the 4th March 1770, at Eakring, Nottingham ? "  would this be my Osborne?????????  any help please!!!!!!!!    Thanks.

Hi sthelena

Welcome to rootschat

Did you mean he was born around 1771 - not 1717?
Just to clarify - I'm sure you already have all this:

John OSBORN(E) of the St Helena Artillery
married on St Helena  11 Jun  1825 to Priscilla
They had issue:
William - b 17 May 1824, chr 22 Jun 1825, Bur 4 Jun 1830
Mary Ann  - b 13 Sep 1826, chr 18 Jan 1827, bur 11 Sep 1827, St Helena,
Jane - b 11 Oct 1828, chr7 Dec 1828, St Helena
Margaret - b 3 Mar 1832, chr 15 Apr 1852. St Helena
Mary Ann - b 4 Oct 1833, chr 8 Dec 1833, St Helena
Sarah  - b 20 Jul 1830, chr 29 Aug 1830, St Helena

Do you have any Burial /Death records for your John or a Gravestone inscription

The christening you mention, is from the IGI.
The parents on that are listed as William OSBORN and Ann.
You really would need more to go on, before you could say with any certainty this was your John.

There was a William OSBORN buried 4 Feb 1795 on St Helena, he was a passenger from a ship "Phoenix".  And a Robert age 20, was buried there 28 Feb 1825. Were these two  any relation to yr John,  I wonder?

Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for all the Information you sent me,  All that I know from the St Helena Artillery Muster & Pension Rolls that Gunner John Osborne that he was from "Nottingham. England". That about all I have to go on so far!! I do have his date of death as" 26th July
1855" age 68yrs. Died on St Helena.

I do have all the other info, thank you.  Do you have any info on a "Mordecai / Morris /
Maurice Bennett!" he was from Birmingham!  He was also in the same Artillery has above,
but he was a Sergeant, when he joined the St Helena Artillery(East India Company) in the Muster Roll, his name was down as "Mordecai",then the went off to India(?), then later on on St Helena. He changed his name to Morris/Maurice! I wounder why???? I do have his date of death, his marriage date. But can't find about his name of MORDECAI? I also have info on his children.

Thanks
