Cemetery Watford
« on: Saturday 18 August 07 00:22 BST (UK) »
Kia Ora Folks
From the 1930s to the 1960s my WILLIAMS family lived in the Callowland area of Watford.
(they had the same address according to the Electoral Rolls).

Happy to PM it if it helps a local identify a possible local cemetery.

I suspect the wife died in the 1960s and the husband moved to Wales where the husband died May 1989 in Rhuddlan aged 94.

Because my family emigrated from England in 1878  I am tracking forward to ascertain what befell those left behind.

I'd be very grateful if someone could advise likely places to look for a C of E burial.
Thanks
Marlene

Hi Marlene

It might be worth contacting Vicarage Road and North Watford Cemeteries.  I have found the staff at the latter very helpful with queries.

The TV soap "Eastenders" bury their "dead" at North Watford Cemetery!  I have often had to wait for filming to finish before I could go in!

Many thanks for the guidance Rick- it helps to have someone who knows the possibilities because then I din't clog up the system  at the cemetery.

Eastenders is on during the day so I have never seen it ...  couldn't you get a 'bit' part while you're waiting?
 ;D

Thanks evry much indeed for the advice and the site!
Much appreciated
Marlene

As you know "Eastenders" is set in the fictional district of Walford in East London.  However, it is actually filmed at studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.  The square itself is a set, but a lot of the location scenes are shot around the Borehamwood and Watford areas.

I wouldn't want you to think that all of it looks that grim though - there are a lot of nice areas! ;D

North Watford Cemetery is quite a nice place and most of the show's "dead" were buried here.  I visit fairly regularly when I am able, so if you discover graves that you are interested in, I will try to photgraph them for you.  It covers a large area though, so I would need exact plot numbers.

Rick :)

Hi Anna

I don't actually remember the fishponds, but I am reliably informed that they were turned into flower beds!
