1685 marriage Llangollen or Wrexham?
« on: Monday 20 August 07 20:40 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the marriage of Martyn WYNNE and Sarah?  about 1685.  The baptisms of their children appear in the Ruabon parish registers starting in 1686 but their marriage is not recorded in Ruabon.  If anyone has access to the Llangollen and Wrexham parish registers around that date I would be very grateful for a lookup.

Thank you.

Hello Heather.
I've had a look at Llangollen marriage index 1674-1701 and Wrexham 1681-1690. The only Wyne married to a Sarah was.
Wrexham July 31 1686.. John Wyne. of this parish. & Sarah Jones. Elsmare.
Spelt as seen.

Paul.

Hello Paul

Many thanks for the lookup in Llangollen & Wrexham.  I guess  they must have married somewhere else - back to the drawing board :)  I'll try the marriage index next.

Hi Heather

There's also the problem of the entries in those early records. I have the Chirk and Llangollen ones and they're very sparce.

Whereabouts in Ruabon where they living when their children were born or is there an occupation that might give a clue?

Regards

Hello Gadget
Sorry for the delay in replying.  Last week my email provider had a melt down and a lot of my email got bounced.   Have only just read your post.

The early entries don't indicate an area but later ones for this Wynne family indicate D.U.  Which is Dinhinlle Uchaf?  Every time I see that word it seems it is spelled differently.  As I am not Welsh speaking :'(  I don't know which is the "correct spelling".  From what I can gather, they were ag labs or tenant farmers at one of two places-  either Nant Uchaf or Nant Issa just south of Pen-y-bryn.

Since I first posted Ann Hayes has done a search for me on the NW marriage index but no results there either except for the John Wyne & Sarah Jones in 1686 Wrexham.   I guess this is about as far as I'm going to get - at least for now :)

Have you tried the Welsh National Library site? They won't be in the Marriage Bonds section because Dafydd did all those for LLGC so they will be in his marriage index but there might be something in the minor archives bit - search on the farms. I got an amazing amount of info on some of my lines by just going throught those archives  :)
