1851 census lookup please - William SAINT
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 12:45 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
As part of my so far fruitless search for Sarah SAINT born either in Worcestershire/Staffordshire or Derbyshire between 1803 and 1816, I think I might've found someone who might be a brother - William SAINT, as his son James is resident with Sarah (married name Price) in South Wales at the 1871 census.

He marries Naomi Forrest in 1838 in Tipton and I've found them and family on 1841 and 1861 census, but no luck in 1851.  The children are Elizabeth b. 1839 and James b. 1848, but probably more inbetween.  Naomi is a widow by 1871.

William is a miner and Naomi is a nailmaker (whose occupation is another link to Sarah Saint).

I also cannot find a credible christening for William.

I would appreciate any help on the Saint family of Tipton/Dudley/Wednesbury/Rowley Regis areas.

Thanks
Helen

Hi Donna,
Thanks for the look-up, I can't imagine why I didn't find them, as I looked at Oldbury too!  I think this confirms that William is Sarah's brother as he is born in Ripley in Derbyshire, which is exactly where her birthplace is on the 1881 census (before that it is Dudley or Staffordshire or Wednesbury  ???) but it looks like the family must've moved to the West Midlands at some point.  Sarah and her family are also living in Oldbury at this point - address is Millfield.

Now I just need their parents!

Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen, you could email Sandwell archives
archives.service@sandwell.gov.uk
and ask them if they would look up Williams father as they married in St Martin's tipton

Just my luck - these Saints are far from saintly!  I requested a look up from the Sandwell archives, as Donna suggested, but only Naomi's father (Samuel) is mentioned  - there is no relative named for William  ???  Does this mean William didn't know who his father was, or that his father is deceased (usually if deceased, the name is given along with the word "deceased", is that right?)?

I need to reflect on this and decide where to go with this research next.
