1881 census look-up PRICE of Abertillery
« on: Thursday 23 August 07 14:05 BST (UK) »
hi there,

I'm looking for Ebenezer Price born 1847 in Oldbury/Worcs or Staffs resident with wife Sarah Ann/Annie (born 1845) in Abertillery.  Their children are:
Joseph 1867
Rowena/Rovina 1869
Laura 1877
Edith 1875 and perhaps some more inbetween.  Children are all born in abertillery.

I've found them in 1901, 1891 and 1871 but no luck in 1881.

Thanks
Helen :)

Yes, Arranroots, that's them!  i have no idea exactly what name "Miah" is as a male name and it looks like the enumerator wasn't sure what sex it should be either, as both columns were used and one crossed through!

Cheers
Helen

Hi Helen

You are right about the crossing through - meant to do that & have now edited it in!

Am struggling to find them in 1881 still - going through Cwm Street as we speak!

I don't see them either - sorry!

The family in 1871 doesn't bear much resemblance to the 1891 family, but I think it must be the same one

1871 census

Ebenezer PRICE H M 23 - coal miner - Staffordshire Oldbury
Annie W M 45 - Glosters Warmley
Joseph son 4 - scholar - Mon Abertillery
Rowena dau 2 - do

Edmunds Row, Aberystruth, Mon

I can see Rowena (Rovina)'s marriage in Pontypool, but that is about it!

Hi Arranroots,

The family in 1871 is the same one as in 1891 although, as you write, it is very different.  For some considerable time i wasn't convinced that it is the same one but in 1901 Ebenezer and Ann have their granddaughter Annie Morgan resident with them (Rowena's daughter) so I'm convinced it is them now.  Odd how Annie Price is from Warmley Glos on one census and from Kingswood in Somerset 2 decades later - are these places close in location  ??? ?

So, I wonder where they are in 1881...will continue searching.  Thanks for your help.

Helen

There is a Kingswood near Bristol (probably IN Bristol these days!) which would have been Gloucestershire - right next door to Warmley.  I notice that other folk are enumerated as Kingswood, Somerset so perhaps the enumerator assumed she was from the Somerset one?

Map ref ST667 715 for both places

Good luck with the search - knowing me I will be back to look again!  ::) ;D
