Still looking for Joseph Tuckwell
« on: Monday 27 August 07 09:12 BST (UK) »
There are not many Tuckwell families in Berkshire that I can find pre 1800.  From the Hugh Wallis site they are to be found in:
Faringdon
South Hinksey
Chaddleworth
Appleford
Saint Giles reading
Long Wittenham
Kingston Bagpuize
Hagbourne
Marcham
If anyone is looking in these areas please keep an eye open for Joseph Tuckwell Born in Berkshire around 1775 /1785
Any thoughts very much appreciated,
Regards, Abiam

Hi Abiam,

You obviously have some more information that we do not know? It is a great help to us if you tell what you have already so we can discount people that do not fit in with your family.

Always try to give everything you have, sometimes it really does make the difference to you receiving the information you require.

Kind Regards,

Frances :)

Hi Frances,

I have posted before about Joseph and was really just trying to nudge somebody!  I apologise and will set out what I have.

Joseph Tuckwell married 1810 in Great Marlow to Lavinia Green.
According to IGI they were both born in Chilton Berks but a Rootschatter checked this for me and found he was not born there.

On the 1841 census he is aged 62 and est. birth is 1779.
According to the Berks Burial Index he died in 1843 aged 67 which would make his birth date 1776.  Lavinia died in 1848 aged 72, both of them buried in Cookham.

There were 2 children bapt. in Bisham Bucks the second dying soon after birth.
They moved to Cookham District before 1841 and had 4 children at home with them then.

And that's about it !  Having gone thro H Wallis this am the villages where I found Tuckwells are in the previous post (today).

Regards, Abiam

Hi Abiam,

As it seems you have been at a halt on this family for a while now and there appears to be a Buckinghamshire connection have you considered asking for a search at Buckinghamshire FHS? Their charges are reasonable and I have found they give a very prompt service :)
http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/

From the BFHS site....
The search options are:
Single BAPTISM Search £1
Single SURNAME Search (i.e. all instances of one surname & variants)
£3 for any 100 years (all parishes) OR £3 for six parishes (all years)

Regards,

Frances :)

Hello again,
That is where I found confirmation of Joseph and Lavinia's marriage.  But could not find Joseph's birth, I have Baptisms for Great Marlow Church from 1763 to 1812 and he is not there.

Do you know if you have to be a member to get a search done?  I've just had a look and it's 12 pounds for an overseas member and only lasts from now until December.  Pensioner's get a reduction but not if you're overseas!  I know they searched for the marriage for me and found it.  Did I join? I don't think so but when I asked for a new password they don't recognise me!  And I can't remember what user name I used.  And I can't find the paper work from then!!

In fact I appear to be having the inevitable 'senior half hour' or perhaps that should be 24 hours.

Abiam

Hi Abiam,

I have had several look-ups done and I am not a member of the BFHS. I must admit I do not think I have registered. I wonder if that is a fairly recent addition :-\

Good Luck,

Frances :)
