Is is possible please, for someone with access to Gateshead parish registers, to look for a marriage for

    John Thomas GUY and Sarah (ARMSTRONG ? ? ?)
          Year:   1889       (Methodist)

Hello Lucy, welcome to Rootschat 

I see you have put Methodist in brackets; does this mean that they were a Methodist family or that you know they were married in a Methodist Church?

If the latter is the case, then I think it's unlikely that anyone on Rootschat will have access to the Methodist registers, and you will have to purchase the Marriage Certificate to find out any details.

It seems possible that John did marry Sarah Armstrong, as there is a Sarah Guy aged 22 with an Armstrong family in Iveston in 1891. Have you got the details if not would you like me to post them for you?

Thank you for your kindly welcome and most helpful information.      Sorry, I should have added a "?" following "Methodist" (I suspect only one party was Methodist ~ the other was likely C of E ~ but I don't have confirmation the marriage took place in a Methodist church).

Yes, please, I would very much like to have the details of Sarah GUY and the ARMSTRONG family at Iveston, 1891.

John and Sarah GUY and children came to New Zealand circa 1911.      I am endeavouring to establish a connection between them and another GUY family who arrived in NZ mid 1850's, but whose roots were in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.    Unfortunately I only have sketchy details of both families at present and feel I need to gather a little more information before leaping in and ordering certificates.    I am most appreciative of any assistance you or others can give.

Lucy, I made a mistake when I wrote out the 1891 census for the Guy family, and omitted to say that Robert, Isabella and John T. were all married. Isabella C. single.

Well done Jennifer, and very many thanks  ~ you've found "my people"  ! ! !

The 1891 census info presented lots of clues and provided a few answers also.   The infant, Isabella C. GUY (visitor at Iveston) appears to have been the firstborn of John and Sarah GUY - I had no previous knowledge of her, but have since found her birth, and sadly, her death at age 11 (in 1900), both events registered at Lanchester.   My next move will be to (hopefully) find John, Sarah and their other children in the 1901 census at Lanchester?

The additional census listings in your second posting are most helpful also.   My grateful thanks again, your efforts are much appreciated.
