Help please...what does Nesa mean

Hi,

Can someone please confirm that the word.... Nesa... means Niece in English

I have been tracing my gggrandmother, and in one census the word Nesa is used.....someone told me it means Niece.

Further down when Enumerating another family he has used the word Nephew with a capital N, so wonder why he used the term nesa for her

Would a 2nd opinion on the Census word help - perhaps,  if you'd like to post the reference and name we could look and see?

Was the family/household  being enumerated from a particular place/country or background?

This is the Look-up I asked for in..  Pembroke Requests, hopefully I have done the Link the right way...first time for me to do this

The census was taken in Pembrokeshire...Llanstadwell.

I have also got Thread in the Common Room asking for the best way to re-search Hannah Williams...Where do I go now?....where I said I would clarify the meaning of the word nesa, meaning niece.

Hi Ambers,

Had a look at both posts -

Have a look at the IGI site

Batch C081191 is for Llanstadwell - you can search this batch and find all the children baptized for Abel & Hannah Williams.

Hannah Williams (1848) is not there, but there is a Hannah Edwards bapt 6 Aug 1848 - daughter of Elizabeth Edwards.

Well spotted.  I should have thought of the IGI earlier.  I always assume that that is the first place people look and forget that not everybody does!    Mea culpa.

Hi Karen,

I did see that Hannah Edwards on the IGI....and as Abels wife was an Edwards before marriage wondered.

It's odd they should point out she wasn't one of their daughters on the census and then give her their surname of Williams...but you never know.
