As it turns out Russell was her maiden name. John Russell married Jean Russell in Slamannan in 1750. So I'm going to start a new thread under the title Russells of Slamannan!!!

Hello.

A third cousin of mine is a great grandson of Thomas Russell, a grain foreman ( 1817-1900) who was born in Cumbernauld as you have noted and who died in mid January 1900 at 185 Kent Street in Glasgow. There is a photograph of Thomas, with his son, Peter Learmont Russell ( 1849-1907), a flour miller. The photo also shows one of Peter's sons, Robert Hunter Russell, a saddler ( 28 February 1872- 5 February 1929), who is buried in Craigton Cemetery, Glasgow, and Robert's eldest son, Thomas, ( b. 5 March 1899- died in North Vancouver, B.C. 6 August 1964). Thomas Sr.'s wife , whom he married in Govan in 1847 was Jane Learmont, a native of Linlithgowshire. The photo appears on the front cover of the most recent issue ( No 82, June 2008) of the Newsletter of the Glasgow and West Of Scotland Family History Society.

Hope this helps.
