Clifford SAGE- Priddy

I am looking for the birth or baptism of Clifford Sage in about 1838, in Priddy. Mother is probably Elizabeth Sage

There may also have been an older sister Rhoda born in 1835.

Any help in finding them would be greatly appreciated

Rhoda SAGE death Jun qtr 1845, Wells, 10 361 may be the sister. Can't see her in 1851 anywhere.

Can't see a birth for Clifford anywhere either on FreeBMD.

I am somewhat confused about this Abraham Stott as I have another Abraham Stott in Somerset for the same period who I believed to have been married in 1843, perhaps to Ms Sage?

In 1841 census,  Somerset, Wookey, District 19
Ann Stott , Age 65, Farmer
Issac Stott, age 45
Abraham Stott, age 30

In 1851 census Abraham lives with his Mother Ann, his brother issac and his sister Anna as well as a servant called Ellen Salvage. All three are unmarried at this time and the Mother Ann is a widow.

While this Abraham Stott is age 40 in 1851, the one Ian listed is 20 years older and is married to an "Elizabeth".

Does anyone have more information on the young Abraham Stott? I know he had a daughter named HANNAH STOTT born 1853 in Henton, wookey, somerset and that she was a boarder of the Edwards farm and ended up marrying Robert Clapp Edwards.

The GRO index shows that Hannah's mmn is SAGE so I think that she is the daughter of the older Abraham STOTT and his wife Elizabeth SAGE.


I can't see any sign that the younger Abraham b.1809 got married.


Unfortunately both Abrahams died in 1854,

I have found this newspaper report about the younger Abraham,

Wells Journal 21 October 1854

Inquests B. FRY, Esq. Coroner
At Wookey near this city on the body of Abraham STOTT, aged 45. The deceased was greatly addicted to drinking, and whilst in a state of intoxication fell down stairs and fractured the base of his skull. Verdict, Accidental Death.



It looks like Elizabeth (nee. SAGE) dies in 1858,

The "England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966, 1973-1995" says,

STOTT Elizabeth
Effects under £50
Letters of Administration of the personal estate and effects of Elizabeth STOTT late of Henton in the Parish of Wookey in the county of Somerset Widow deceased who died 02 February 1858 at Henton in the Parish of Wookey aforesaid were granted at Wells under the usual Limitations to Isabella NEVILLE (wife of William NEVILLE of Plymouth in the county of Devon pensioner) the Aunt and Guardian of Mary STOTT Spinster and John STOTT and Hannah STOTT Spinster Minors the only children of the said deceased she having been first sworn.


She seems to have forgotten about her son Clifford I can see him alive in 1861 then I lose sight of him.
