What if you don't know that one of your ancestors was a naturalised immigrant and/or changed their surname? How would you go about finding this out?

A search at NA will show you if there are are any naturalization papers there for your ancestor.

I thought I had found mine there but it was just someone with the same name.

If your ancestor married a British wife/husband there would be no need for him to apply for Naturalization - mine didn't.
