The death certificate arrived this morning.

It is the correct Ewan Strachan I have found.
He was a long distance lorry driver. His usual residence was Stratton Lodge, Statton Saint Margaret, Swindon. I'm guessing that is a hostel or something.
The informant on death was a Mary Grace Foxworthy. I have no idea who she was. He 'qualification' was given as "causing the body to be cremated". ??? Is that an odd qualification? He died due to stomach cancer.

Thanks for all your help in this long, long search.

regards

I see. That would make sense. It would appear that even his brother was not informed of Ewan's death. Would they just have disposed of the ashes themselves or is he lying on a shelf in some depot somewhere?
I have searched the hostel on google and it is still in business.

I was going to email the manager but it probably would be fruitless. He was living there 30 years ago - the place has probably had a few different owners in that time.

If a person other than a relative is the one who registers the death it must be the person who is going to be responsible for disposing of the deceased's body.
