Just to add to Geoff's 1861 info:

The family were at 9 Ribchester Terrace, West Ham

James was a Silk Printer, born Lancashire, Manchester
Jane was born Midsx, Isleworth
The children were born in Essex, West Ham

That's great - thankyou!  We've never had any interests in Lancashire before so that will be something new.  They're my husband's family rather than mine but I do feel some warming to this silk printer - myself being a textile artist (more embroidery)!

I can't place this Ribchester Terrace at the moment so will have to work on that .......

Strangely Ribchester is a place in Lancashire, just north of Blackburn!
There is no modern Ribchester Terrace, but the way I usually find old streets is by using:
www.historicaldirectories.org
and searching under the old Post Office Directories of London.

Had a quick look, but I still can't find it!

Hi Geoff

I can't find it either ............... am wondering if either it was a terraced part of a larger street or if it should be something else ............ I did find a Winchester Terrace in Hearne Street but this was in Plaistow, West Ham and I think that mine may be more likely to be in Stratford, West Ham but who knows ........ I can't be sure can I?
