Hilland or Hiland family name.
« on: Friday 24 December 04 10:01 GMT (UK) »
Dear readers,I know this is a long shot.I am searching for ancestors who bear the Hilland name.It is only just through the auspecises of Rootschat.com that I discovered that all the ancestors on my mother's side were Irish ie. Devlins and Hilland. Both families appear to have come to England from Ireland about the 1850,s as miners, presumeably to open up the coal fields in Durham and Cumberland.I have not got a clue as to where the Hilland's came from although it appears that the name does have Scandenavian connotations. My primary ancestor was named as "Hugh Hilland" and he was born circa 1839.I would appreciate any help in finding out anything about the "Hilland's" and where they came from.
Thank you
Edward Kenna

Hello Kate and thank you for your suggestion. There are 12 Hilland households circa 1840's but ther are eight in Belfast City.Looks like I,ll have to look there.
Thank you once again
Ted Kenna.
